Project Description
Toronto Tomorrow is a proposed masterplan document that will transform Toronto's currently underdeveloped eastern waterfront into one of the most innovative districts in the world. Pentagram collaborated with Sidewalk Labs on the design of the draft Master Innovation and Development Plan (MIDP), a massive, four-volume, 1500-page document that details the proposal.
Pentagram developed the content and volume systems structure for the MIDP along with a robust kit of parts for the project. A comprehensive system of typography, color, graphics and iconography was designed to create a clear coherent visual language across a huge variety of subject matter and media and facilitate the design and layout of the proposal. The content of the books ranges from textual matter to infographics, architectural drawings, plans, schematics and photography. Illustration also plays a key role in conveying the atmosphere of the new district combining the graphic style of Dutch illustrator Hedof with the playful work of Canadian illustrator Emily Taylor.
