Project Description
Founded in 2015, CTRL-labs is a New York-based startup developing a wristband that translates musculoneural signals into machine-interpretable commands. In short, CTRL-labs is exploring interaction with technology beyond use of a mouse, keyboard or any physical input but through neurons and translating mental intent into actions.
The CTRL-labs brand draws on these forward-facing intentions. The wordmark is custom designed and inspired by retro-futuristic sci-fi typography, all grounded in a contemporary form. The brand mark is drawn to an isometric grid and alludes to an array of qualities: the form of the wearable device, dimensionality and the brand initials. Similarly, the suite of brand patterns is built from an array of isometric gridded graphics that draw from the visual plotting of neurological charts and scans by the neurologists within CTRL-labs. These components are combined with a contemporary vibrant pink brand colour.
In Fall of 2019, CTRL-labs was acquired by Facebook in a multi-million dollar deal. The CTRL-labs work and research continues at Facebook Reality Labs.
